On-demand: QGIS Essentials for Water Modelling (OD-26-3-172)

Description
Take sessions at any time with unlimited access for 30 days on registration.

This three-part course gives participants a strong, practical foundation in using QGIS for hydrological analysis. The course begins with the core theory behind flow routing and guides participants through installing and applying the PCRaster Tools plugin to generate accurate flow‑direction layers. These early steps build the spatial understanding needed for reliable water‑modelling workflows.

Participants gain hands-on experience in deriving stream networks and delineating catchments. This includes calculating Strahler orders, flow accumulation, and channel networks, before mapping catchments and subcatchments with confidence. Each process is demonstrated through clear, repeatable steps that translate directly into real‑world water projects.

This course also focuses on the essential cartographic skills for communicating hydrological outputs. Participants learn how to style GIS layers, apply advanced techniques such as inverted polygon shapeburst fills, and design clean, professional map layouts with locator maps. By the end of the course, participants have a complete understanding of the workflow for turning raw elevation data into meaningful, well‑presented hydrological insights.

On completion, you will be awarded an internationally recognised QGIS Certificate.
