Rivers are constantly adjusting to climate, flow, sediment, and human influence. This practical course gives participants a clear foundation in fluvial geomorphology, focusing on how to read river form, understand process, and recognise the drivers behind landscape change.

Participants build confidence in applying geomorphic concepts such as complex response, lag-times, connectivity, and upstream to downstream interactions to real waterway contexts. The course also introduces how geomorphic assessment can inform common waterway related engineering projects such as waterway crossings, stormwater infrastructure, creek naturalisation and diversion design.

In this three-part course, participants work through applied examples, explore engineering and using field trip case studies and videos that demonstrate how tools, concepts, and interpretation skills can be used together. The result is a practical, job ready understanding of how river behaviour can inform planning, design, and management decisions.
